Lonely Cats

There are some amazing things happening for me online lately.

Say What?

I generally agree with pretty much everything David Sirota says about Chris Matthews running for the Senate. Specifically, I agree with him that I hate people that think they are entitled to a Senate seat due to their celebrity, and I hate people “parachuting” into places (like New York, for example) and claiming a [...]

Jonathan Plens (therookieqq9) Interview with Poker News Daily

Poker News Daily: How did you get your start in the game of poker?
Plens: When I graduated from college, I didn’t want to get a job. At the time of the Moneymaker boom, I was about 25 years-old and in college. I was always a gambler and as poker started getting popular, I found out that it could be beat with skill.

Best Pull-behind Carry-on Luggage Ever - Zuca Pro

In addition to the Checkpoint Friendly CompuBrief laptop bag that I blogged about yesterday, my second carry-on bag on my trip to Aruba last month was the ultra-innovative, ultra-cool, ultra-light Zuca Pro.
This bag rocks.
I’m not using hyperbole when I say this piece of wheeled luggage is revolutionary. It uses space-age materials to make it ultra-light [...]

Beer and Blog & Open Source Bridge: Two great tastes that taste great together

Last night at the Portland Web Innovators presentation, I got the chance to laud compliments on Beer and Blog, an event that has really helped solidify the Web and Open Source startup community in Portland—and now Corvallis. A little later, I got the chance to share some of the early thinking on what will be [...]

When Do These Guys Pay A Price?

Via memeorandum, a story about the newspaper industry:

Newspaper and newspaper groups are likely to default on their debt and go out of business next year—leaving “several cities” with no daily newspaper at all, Fitch Ratings says in a report on media released Wednesday.

“Fitch believes more newspapers and newspaper groups will default, be shut down and [...]

Bird injury

Every Autumn I clean the windows and remove the screens before sealing them for winter to maximize our solar gain. Donna always says that will kill some birds. Well, today that happened; one of those pesky robins panicked and flew directly into one of our windows. Others have hit them and recovered in an hour or two but this one died within minutes.

Delhi: Twitter Report of Six Gunmen Being Shot Dead turns into 'Security Scare at Delhi's Airport'

At the start of my New Media Tools for Journalism class at BU today, I brought up twitter search, because I heard about a shooting in Delhi. The first tweet I saw was from Andy Carvin:Reports are saying that six gunmen were shot at Delhi's airport. Any reports of civilian casualties? Haven't seen anything on the wires yet. Anyone on Twitter at Delhi's airport right now?

Sadly, Glenn Beck and Loud Dobbs Still Have Jobs

Cuts at CNN:

CNN, the Cable News Network, announced yesterday that it will cut its entire science, technology, and environment news staff, including Miles O’Brien, its chief technology and environment correspondent, as well as six executive producers. Mediabistro’s TVNewser broke the story.

“We want to integrate environmental, science and technology reporting into the general editorial structure rather [...]
